Preds Rise to Meet Challenge from Port Chester

Yonkers, NY -- The chief benefit of playing in Division 3 in the Westchester Youth Soccer League is it gives teams the opportunity to measure themselves against the best. The Yonkers Predators made the most of their chance in a strong effort against Port Chester at Tibbetts Field. The Predators played their best game of the season in the 3-1 loss.
"We looked better than we ever have" said Coach Tom. "The Predators really took it up a notch".
Yonkers use of a 3-4-1 formation clogged the midfield and blunted Port Chester's organized attack. Stopper Eamon Tracey lead the defense. Fullbacks Jovin Shalala, Jed Donohue, Anthony Casabianca and Player of the Game Edo Gutic.
"Our defense was very strong today" said Midfielder Peter Tinaj.
Tinaj, Daniel Sheahan, Jason Cohen, John Campanile and Patrick Tannian held the center third of the field for much of the game. Sheahan, Tannian and Striker Charles Bohan orchestrated a sequence of passes that resulted in the team taking a 1-0 lead in the first half. Michael Costello also contributed valuable minutes on a hot afternoon.
"We need to pass to be successful" said Coach Tom. "We have to go around the defense, not through it."
Yonkers Goalkeeper Ethan Jacobson made two more spectacular diving saves. Six of his punts went beyond midfield.
"We're starting to gel" said Coach Guy. "The boys are starting to understand and embrace their roles. I think we are on the brink of stringing together some very strong performances."
