Predators Reel in Sharks for Dramatic 3-3 Draw
by CG Belltower
Yonkers, NY -- The gritty and gutty Yonkers Predators overcame a two goal deficit to tie the top ranked Larchmont Sharks at Fleming Field.
"That was a great game" said Predator striker Charles Bohan. He scored the first goal of the day and his first goal of the season. Bohan's shot immediately followed a cross bar rebound off the foot of Midfielder Daniel Sheahan.
Yonkers fell two goals behind in the the first half. But the Predators would not quit. Striker Bohan and forward Michael Costello put extreme pressure on the Shark defense. The result was an own-goal that cut the deficit to one at half-time.
"A few seasons ago, a game like this would have gotten out of hand" said Coach Guy. "I like the toughness we are seeing. The boys do not panic. It's a sign of maturity."
The team's confidence rests on a defense anchored by stopper Eamon Tracey, fullback Edo Gutic, fullback Jed Donahue and fullback Anthony Casabianca. The Predator back line played hard and thoughtfully throughout the game.
Midfielders Peter Tinaj, Jovin Salala and John Campanile did a wonderful job organizing the Yonkers attack. Tinaj just missed scoring two goals and Campanile executed a remarkable sideline run that would make any World Cup highlight reel.
"John looked like Ariel Robben on that play" noted Tinaj.
Yonkers was also able to stay in the game thanks to another superb outing by keeper Ethan Jacobson. He had four saves including a spectacular dive.
The Predators knotted the score early in the second half due to a spot on cross from midfielder Patrick Tannian that was redirected into the net by forward Jason Cohen. It was Cohen's second goal of the season.
"We'll need to continue improving our passing" remarked Coach Tom. "The competition will only get tougher. The good news is we will only get better."
++++++++
Games Notes:
Jacobson was named "Player of the Game"...This was the second consecutive game in which the Predators battled back from a two goal deficit...the pregame warm-up was led by Ursuline stand-out Angelina Campanile.
