Yonkers Holds Fast Against Chappaqua
by CGBelltower
Ossining, NY -- The Yonkers Predators courageously battled muggy conditions, swarms of gnats and a relentless Chappaqua attack on Sunday but could not prevail in a 6-2 loss.
The highlight of the match for the Preds was a very nifty set piece on corner kick in the first half. Attacker Patrick Tannian made a perfect pass to Midfielder John Campanile as he darted from the penalty area and called for the ball. This confused the Chappaqua team which missed Midfielder Peter Tinaj as he moved to a back post. Campanile delivered a spot on cross that Tinaj expertly headed into the net.
"That was cool" said Yonkers defender Anthony Casabianca.
Casabianca, Jed Donahue, and Jovin Shalala did all they could to hold off Chappaqua's high octane offense. Keeper Ethan Jacobson made multiple saves.
Jason Cohen took turns at stopper and midfielder during the contest. His heads up play in the second half helped start a sequence that ended with striker Charles Bohan putting away an outside shot for Yonkers' second goal.
Daniel Sheahan and Edo Gutic played well at midfield. Michael Costello also did his very best in tough conditions.
"The gnats were everywhere. That was annoying" said Costello as he tried to chase away a half dozen insects circling his head.
"The conditions were far from ideal" agreed Coach Guy "but we just did not match up well with Chappaqua. They are a very good team. The fact is the Preds played hard right until the final whistle. That's all we ask."
