Predator Comeback Knots Tornadoes in Season Opener
By CG Belltower
Greenburgh, NY -- The Yonkers Predators showed uncommon grit and determination to overcome a two goal deficit and tie a very talented Greenburgh team in the first game of the season.
"We did really well" said a very satisfied Michael Costello. The Predator forward scored the team's first goal of the season. It was also the first goal of his WYSL career.
The Predators spent much of the first half trying to find their rhythm. Defenders Anthony Casabianca and Jed Donohue were in top form after a summer in which they worked hard to improve their skills. Patrick Tannian also played a pivotal role in at least two sequences in which he disrupted the Greenburgh attack. Fullback Edo Gutic showed great promise is his debut.
The back line was complimented by Stopper Eamon Tracey's physical style. He was a deterrent against any who dared a frontal assault on the goal.
"The defense buckled down once we got into the second half" said Yonkers Coach Guy Campanile. "They needed to get into the flow of the game and start thinking instead of reacting. We will keep working on that. Ethan Jacobson was just terrific in goal. He had three saves."
The Predators equalizer was scored in the second half by Jason Cohen. He was joined by midfielders Jovin Salala, Peter Tinaj, John Campanile, Daniel Sheahan and striker Charles Bohan in creating a number of scoring opportunities.
"We're only going to get better," predicted Costello.
++++++++++++
Team Notes:
- Costello was named Player of the Game
- The Predators finished 3rd in the White Plains Tiger Tune-up Tournament.
